World Water Day 2023 – Because water means life!
World Water Day is an annual event that draws attention to the critical global water crisis. Despite water being essential to life, over 2 billion people worldwide lack access to clean drinking water. This poses significant social, health, and environmental issues as polluted water can cause diseases, poverty, and food insecurity. To raise awareness of this challenge, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 22nd as World Water Day through Resolution A/RES/47/193 in December 1992. World Water Day aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 6, which aims to provide clean water and sanitation to everyone by 2030.
The protection of water and marine resources is also a key element of the EU Taxonomy Regulation, where the Commission has dedicated one environmental objective to achieving this goal. So far, the requirements on substantial contributions to climate change mitigation and climate change adaptation have been adopted, and the remaining four were announced to be adopted until June 30th, 2023. With this addition to the EU Taxonomy Regulation, the EU is further stressing the importance of protecting water resources in line with the Green Deal objectives.
The VIRIDAD-team supports the preservation of water and marine resources in their daily lives. We strive to facilitate the implementation of the EU Taxonomy and create impact by supporting the transition towards a sustainable society.
